BQA Certification

The centerpiece of BQA lies in formal certification according to a set of national BQA standards. Many buyers of feeder calves and breeding stock are seeking out sources of livestock from BQA certified operations and individuals. In some cases cattle eligible for certain marketing programs must come from BQA certified operations. By applying BQA practices and standards producers are openingup a market outlet for those progressive beef cattle producers who become certified.”

Becoming BQA Certified in Montana
BQA training is conducted through your local county Extension agent and at statewide meetings (see Upcoming Events). Your BQA certification is valid for three years. The certification and recertification fees have been waived through December 2006 by the BQA advisory committee to help producers address recent industry challenges.

Montana BQA allows cross-qualification with other state BQA programs. BQA certification does not require Montana Beef Network (MBN) involvement, but it allows membership in MBN and other programs requiring BQA certification.

Additional educational opportunities include:
- Montana "MarketManager
- Montana Stockgrowers Association meetings

Upon successful completion of the BQA course, producers:

  1. Will receive a certification card and BQA manual.

  2. Will be recognized as a BQA Certified Producer on a promotional list published in hard copy and on this website.

  3. Are eligible to become part of the through the Feeder Cattle Certification program (details).

  4. BQA certification may be obtained through cross-qualification with other state programs.
