Ear Notch Sample Collection and Shipment Instructions

Materials Needed:

  1. Red top serum tubes (5ml).
  2. Small ear-notch tool.
  3. Shipping container with ice packs and box liner.
  4. Sample submission form (included with this sampling kit − make additional copies if you anticipate multiple tissue submissions.

Collection Procedure:

  1. Write individual animal ID on tube using a small "Sharpie"- type permanent marker.
  2. Take small ear notch and place in dry tube (do not place in formalin or PBS). sample submission

  3. Rinse ear-notch tool in a mild disinfectant solution after sampling each animal − then rinse in clean water prior to taking tissue sample from next animal.
  4. Do not contaminate tissue sample with disinfectant or livestock tattoo ink.
  5. Maintain collected samples in a cooler with ice packs or in freezer prior to shipment.
  6. Replace tubes UPRIGHT in the individual tube holder that the tubes arrived in. This assists the lab in expediting the testing of your ear notch samples.
  7. Samples can be frozen immediately after collection and screened within 30 days.

Shipping Procedure:

  1. Ship overnight using UPS or other overnight/next day carrier of your choice.
  2. Place samples and ice pack in insulated envelope or bag prior to packing in box.
  3. Wrap tightly and seal to ensure samples remain cool for two days.
  4. Ship samples to:

  5. Friday shipments need to be packed with extra ice packs to keep cold for the weekend.
  6. Send shipping tracking number to heidia@animalprofiling.com or fax tracking number to 503-247-8028 or call 503-247-8066 with tracking number when samples are shipped

Results will be emailed, phoned or faxed to you the next business day after samples are received.
